Accountant II - Central Finance Office Enterprise Funds

The Accountant II Central Finance Office Enterprise Funds Accountant reports to the Accounting Operations Manager and is responsible for providing accounting support for the Parish’s enterprise and internal service funds.

Essential Duties:

  • Reviews and approves various items for accuracy, regulatory compliance and adherence to policies and procedures including vendor invoices, purchase orders, petty cash reimbursement requests, reconciliation of Accounts Receivable balances, Consolidated Water District Sales Tax return, and travel authorization requests.
  • Creates various reports and schedules including bank reconciliations, Internal Service Allocation Schedules, utility rate increases, and ad hoc financial reports.
  • Reconciles and/or balances various accounts or items such as bank statements, liability accounts, and petty cash accounts.
  • Receives and analyzes various types of statements, contracts and agreements such as accounts receivable, audit reports, budgets, grantee reports, fixed asset additions, line item transfers.
  • Prepares various documentation as needed including financial reports, statements, line item transfers, financial summaries, spreadsheets, graphs, audit work papers, grantee reports, status reports, budget schedules, cash reports, journal entries.
  • Communicates and works collaboratively with various entities in researching and resolving accounting issues including other departments, financial institutions, vendors, and auditors.
  • Maintains accurate and complete indexes, hard copy and computer files of work processed and accountable for; ensures same for personnel under charge.
  • Works collaboratively with external auditors and other agencies, providing financial data, responding to inquiries. Assists other department personnel in the preparation and completion of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. Maintains current knowledge of and ensures compliance with approved policies and procedures, generally accepted accounting principles, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Evaluates performance of one subordinate Accountant staff, and makes recommendations of job performance rating.

Minimum Qualifications Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Current employment with Jefferson Parish and permanent civil service status in the classification of Accountant III or Accountant I-Central Finance Office; supplemented by at least one (1) year of experience in that capacity.
  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited college; supplemented by at least two (2) years of full-time, paid work experience performing professional* accounting duties.
  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with at least eighteen (18) semester hours of Accounting coursework; supplemented by at least three (3) years of full-time, paid work experience performing professional* accounting duties. (Proof of education is required in the form of a college transcript.)
  • Possession of Master’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field from an accredited college with at least eighteen (18) semester hours of Accounting coursework; supplemented by at least one (1) year of full-time, paid work experience performing professional* accounting duties. (Proof of education is required in the form of a college transcript.)
  • Possession of Master’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field from an accredited college with at least thirty (30) semester hours of Accounting coursework. (Proof of education is required in the form of a college transcript.)

PREFERRED Applicants possessing a CPA designation or with eligibility to sit for the CPA exam will be given very strong preference.
