New Orleans Chapter: From Code to Cash: The Financial Lifecyle of Healthcare Services

-

New Orleans

2.00 Credits

Our June 19th session will feature Trish Thibodeau, CPA who will give us an update on the financial lifecycle of healthcare services. The healthcare industry presents a distinct business model that CPAs must understand to provide meaningful financial guidance. Revenue is primarily driven by third-party payors such as commercial insurers, Medicare, and Medicaid, rather than direct patient payments. Key performance metrics—like payer mix, days in A/R, and cost per encounter—offer insight into financial health, while complex regulatory frameworks, including Government Auditing Standards and healthcare-specific reporting requirements, demand specialized attention. A typical primary care visit showcases the intricate flow from service delivery to revenue collection. In today’s environment, healthcare providers face a range of challenges, including workforce shortages, rising costs, and political uncertainty. These issues are compounded in Louisiana, where a significant portion of the population relies on Medicaid, placing pressure on reimbursement and operations. The aging population further increases demand, while supply chain constraints add to financial strain. For CPAs, a solid grasp of these industry dynamics is essential for effective auditing, advisory work, and ensuring long-term financial sustainability for healthcare clients.Non-CPA staff, student, and candidate affiliates are invited to attend at the member rate (free).
