The Brothers of the Sacred Heart Province of the United States is seeking candidates for the full-time position of Province Assistant Treasurer. The job is based in New Orleans at the Province Office (4600 Elysian Fields Ave., New Orleans, LA  70122). The Assistant Treasurer works directly with the Provincial and Provincial Finance Director, overseeing and managing the financial operations of the Province and its activities in the United States, England, and the Philippines.

The Assistant Treasurer reports directly to the Provincial, meets regularly with the Provincial Council, and works daily with the staff in the office and remotely with finance directors/treasurers of the schools and other works of the Province and with the directors of the Brothers’ residences. There is rarely travel involved.

The 12-month, full-time position requires daily office hours to be agreed upon and occasional late or after-hours time in special circumstances.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation of the annual budget for the Province.
  • Preparation of the annual financial report to the Institute.
  • Overseeing the preparation and filing of annual tax reports to ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies.
  • Coordinate the annual audit and review of Province and related corporations.
  • Oversee internal controls over the financial operation.
  • Manage the operational assets of the Province and work with the banks involved to align Province resources with needs.
  • Conducts the annual fundraising appeal for the Brothers’ retirement fund.
  • Review and present financial statements regularly to the Provincial Council.
  • Keeping accurate and understandable records and manage cash flow according to the mission and priorities of the Province.
  • Serve as Executive Director of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Foundation, meet quarterly with its Board of Directors, and use monthly investment reports to produce financial reports on investment performance.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Provincial.
  • Become a member of the Province Office community which operates on a servant leadership model

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or finance or related field; CPA preferred but not required.
  • Affinity for and willingness to engage in the mission and philosophy of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart.
  • Understanding and affinity for non-profit financial principles and regulations.
  • Good analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Skill in accounting software and other financial management systems.
  • Experience in financial management, preferably but not necessarily for a non-profit organization.

Compensation

  • Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
