Christopher Shankle, Argent Financial Group, Inc

Chris is Senior Vice President with Argent Financial and operates from a Registered Investment Advisory (RIA) firm, Argent Retirement Plan Advisors, within the company focusing on Retirement and Benefit Consulting. He works with sponsors of plans of a variety of sizes and types helping them design and maintain benefit structures, and attend to the fiduciary obligations and plan governance issues. This includes vendor monitoring and selection (including RFPs), investment analysis and selection, target date reviews, plan design considerations, education of all parties and fee benchmarking. Chris has over 34 years of experience of providing tax and retirement solutions to his clients across the South. Prior to joining Argent, Chris served clients in a similar role at Capital One, N.A. (formerly Hibernia National Bank) for over 20 years and started his career with PriceWaterhouse Coopers (formerly Price Waterhouse).

  • In 2014 he was appointed by the U.S. Treasury to the IRS Advisory Committee on Tax Exempt and Governmental Entities (The ACT) for a 2-year term. In 2016, he was asked to extend his appointment for an additional year, finalizing his service in 2017.
  • He has served on the AICPA Employee Benefits Technical Resource Panel, a working committee designated to monitor tax legislative, regulatory developments and official guidance impacting employee benefits and compensation, and to develop comments reflective of the position of membership. He has served as chair of the committee for fiscal years 2011-2013.
  • He recently served on the AICPA Tax Executive Committee, the senior policy making committee for the AICPA on all matters related to taxation 2015 - 2019.
  • Chris was named as a member of the American Bar Association's (ABA) Joint Committee on Employee Benefits (JCEB) in 2016 as the AICPA's liaison to represent common issues between the organizations and interests related to employee benefit matters.
  • He also is an active member of the LCPA and serves on the society's Members in Industry committee and serves as Chair of the Human Resources committee.
  • He serves on the ASPPA Government Affairs - IRS Subcommittee since 2011. 
He is a frequent speaker on various employee benefits topics at CPE / CLE events throughout the country and is active in advocacy efforts with policy and rule makers concerning a variety of employee benefit issues. His goal is to assist employers in establishing and offering effective retirement and benefit plans to employees and in attending to their fiduciary responsibilities and plan governance. His clients are located in: North Louisiana; DFW metroplex; North and Central Mississippi and East Tennessee.
