During the second half, participants will work on their firm's QM implementation process, including identifying potential quality risks, assessing those risks, developing responses, and meeting the new QM documentation standards. Paul and Heather are both with the Illinois CPA Society.

Quality Management – Next Steps

-

Metairie

8.00 Credits

This practical, discussion-based course assists firms that have already implemented the AICPA’s Quality Management (QM) standards address the next challenges in meeting the requirements of QM standards – 1) evaluating whether a firm’s QM system operates effectively in practice and 2) supporting QM firm leadership’s annually required conclusion on system effectiveness.Moving beyond initial design and documentation, the course examines the ongoing responsibilities of monitoring, remediation, and annual evaluation that are central to a risk-based quality management system. Through real-world examples, peer review insights, and interactive discussion, participants will gain a deeper understanding of how to assess whether their QM systems are functioning as intended and how to demonstrate operational effectiveness with meaningful evidence. The course emphasizes the critical transition from “having” a QM system to proving that it works. Participants will explore common post-implementation breakdowns, develop practical monitoring approaches tailored to firm risks, and learn how to distinguish documented policies from evidence of actual execution. The program also addresses evaluating findings, identifying root causes, designing effective remedial actions, and supporting leadership’s required annual conclusion on system effectiveness.  Intended for managing partners, quality management leaders, peer reviewers, and audit and accounting professionals, this in-person, instructor-led program provides actionable guidance to help firms strengthen compliance, improve accountability, and respond confidently to increasing regulatory and peer review scrutiny.

Designed as an all-you-need-to-know update for accounting, auditing, and attestation practitioners at all levels in public accounting and industry, this course provides a comprehensive review of recent standard-setting and rulemaking activities of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). On the financial accounting front, we will cover the FASB's Post-Implementation Review (PIR) report released in late 2025 for lease accounting under ASC 842 and discuss the best practices in applying the standard and identifying any ongoing issues practitioners are experiencing with applying the standard. We will also discuss the more than a dozen ASUs the FASB has issued since the beginning of 2024 and into 2026, covering government grants, derivatives and financial instruments, practical expedients for credit losses under ASC 326, and expense disaggregation on the income statement. Our focus on AICPA standards includes a detailed discussion of revamped AICPA quality management standards. The AICPA updated and modernized the standards by issuing Statement on Quality Management Standards 1, 2, and 3 (SQMS 1, SQMS 2, and SQMS 3, respectively), SSARS No. 26, and SAS 146, Quality Management for an Engagement Conducted in Accordance with Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (SAS 146). These standards, now effective as of December 15, 2025, modernize quality management standards to reflect an increased focus on risk assessment, technology use, and the presence of outside experts on engagements. We will also discuss AICPA's proposed SAS, The Auditor's Responsibilities Relating to Fraud in an Audit of Financial Statements, intended to supersede AU-C section 240. We will also cover new rules impacting public company audits and present case studies on recent fraudulent accounting stories and best practices for detecting and preventing such frauds. In summary, the course is your go-to source for all things A&A and will prepare you for your upcoming engagements throughout the rest of the year.

This presentation provides a clear and engaging overview of the key insurance concepts every business owner needs to understand. We’ll explore the major types of business insurance—such as property, liability, workers compensation, and commercial auto—and break down when each coverage is needed, why it matters, and how it protects your organization from financial loss. Casey Brandt, CISR, also compares needs vs. wants in business insurance to help decisionmakers prioritize coverage based on risk exposure, legal requirements, and financial tolerance. Additionally, the presentation introduces self-insurance strategies, explaining when alternative risk financing makes sense, what industries use it effectively, and the potential advantages and pitfalls. You’ll learn about Key Employee (Key Person) Insurance, including how it works, who qualifies as a key employee, and how this coverage helps safeguard business continuity. Finally, we’ll cover the growing importance of Cyber Insurance—what it covers, typical cyber risks facing businesses today, and why even small organizations are increasingly vulnerable. By the end of this session, attendees will have a solid understanding of business insurance fundamentals and be better equipped to evaluate risk and build a comprehensive protection strategy.  This lunchtime, 2-hour program gives you time to take care of business before and after the presentation.
