Overview

This presentation provides a clear and engaging overview of the key insurance concepts every business owner needs to understand. We’ll explore the major types of business insurance—such as property, liability, workers compensation, and commercial auto—and break down when each coverage is needed, why it matters, and how it protects your organization from financial loss. Casey Brandt, CISR, also compares needs vs. wants in business insurance to help decisionmakers prioritize coverage based on risk exposure, legal requirements, and financial tolerance. Additionally, the presentation introduces self-insurance strategies, explaining when alternative risk financing makes sense, what industries use it effectively, and the potential advantages and pitfalls. You’ll learn about Key Employee (Key Person) Insurance, including how it works, who qualifies as a key employee, and how this coverage helps safeguard business continuity. Finally, we’ll cover the growing importance of Cyber Insurance—what it covers, typical cyber risks facing businesses today, and why even small organizations are increasingly vulnerable.

By the end of this session, attendees will have a solid understanding of business insurance fundamentals and be better equipped to evaluate risk and build a comprehensive protection strategy.

This lunchtime, 2-hour program gives you time to take care of business before and after the presentation. And it all happens live — giving you the chance to ask presenters the questions you need answered.
