Dr. Joshua Hunt will break down the fundamentals of artificial intelligence for accounting professionals, translating key concepts like language models, hallucinations, and basic security into plain, accessible language. He will also explain how AI differs from traditional calculation software, helping attendees understand both the realistic capabilities and natural limitations of these emerging tools.

Joshua Hunt, Ph.D., CPA, Louisiana Tech University

Joshua O.S. Hunt is an Assistant Professor at Louisiana Tech University, where he teaches in both the School of Accountancy and the Department of Computer Information Systems, and previously served as an assistant professor at Mississippi State University. He earned his Ph.D. in Business Administration (Accounting), Master of Statistics and Business Analytics, and Master of Accountancy from the University of Arkansas, as well as a Master of Arts in Teaching (Mathematics) and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Louisiana Tech University. In addition to his academic roles, he brings valuable industry experience having served as a Senior Data Scientist at the Cyber Innovation Center (CIC).
 
His research focuses on the practical application of artificial intelligence and machine learning in accounting and auditing, with an emphasis on model interpretability, the internal mechanics of AI systems, and predictive analytics. He teaches courses across both accounting and computer information systems, including AI applications in business, business analytics, and doctoral seminars on machine learning and AI in business research, and has previously taught accounting information systems and managerial accounting.
 
He serves the academic and professional community in several capacities, including serving on editorial and review boards for accounting technology journals, chairing the graduate curriculum committee, and serving on the university-wide AI advisory committee as well as the College of Business AI and Information Technology Committees. A recipient of the 2024 Louisiana Tech College of Business Teaching Award, Dr. Hunt leverages both his industry and academic background to help accounting students and professionals bridge the gap between emerging data science technologies and practical accounting workflows.
